Police investigating fatal hit-and-run in Maili

UPDATE: 6:55 a.m.

Police have reopened the westbound lanes on Farrington Highway near St. Johns Road following a fatal hit-and-run involving a 37-year-old pedestrian in Maili early today.

Lt. James Slayter of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division said the pedestrian was walking across the highway in a marked crosswalk toward Maili Beach Park at approximately 3:50 a.m. when he was struck by a white pick-up truck traveling eastbound.

The pedestrian was then struck by a second vehicle that was traveling eastbound. Upon impact, Slayter said the man was thrown onto the westbound lanes of the highway when he was struck by a third vehicle.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition…
