It was designed by Oliver Traphagen in the Italian Renaissance style. It has been expanded over time with two side wings in 1928 and two towers from the 1950s and 1960s. It was renamed in 2007 to the Westin Moana Surfrider.
The Moana Hotel is on the National Register #72000417.
